We are beyond excited to be bringing to you some local wonders of the literary arts this year at and around the HB Williams Memorial Library.

Pukarau Many Stories is a community activation contribution to Te Tairawhiti Arts Festival.  

Oodles of creative talent, fun activities and wonderful stories old and new define our region.

Taniwha - Hīkoi Kōrero :: StoryWalk®

 Written and illustrated by Robyn Kahukiwa. Te Ko te huri ki te reo Maori na Keri Kaa

  • DURATION OF FESTIVAL - This event will go ahead under level 1 or 2 

A little boy has made friends with the taniwha in his river, but no-one believes him. The taniwha takes him on a journey through time and myth.

Take a stroll with him and discover the classic story ‘Taniwha’ alongside Taruheru river.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.  Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.

 

Whitiki! Whiti! Whiti! E! :: Writing Maori history in the 21st Century

  • Friday 8th October 5:30PM - This event will go ahead under level 1 only

Dr Monty Soutar discusses the motivation that led to his books on Maori in the two World Wars and his latest challenge – to write a novel series about Aotearoa New Zealand’s history through the eyes of nine successive generations of a Maori family. 

 

 

Kia Waiata Tātau :: Sing with us

  • Tuesday 12 October 9am - This event will go ahead under level 1 only

Join the library team and Gisborne District Council’s Ngā Manu Tīoriori for a session of waiata. Nau mai, haere mai. All Welcome. 

 

Tipuna Stories :: Te Runanga o Turanganui a Kiwa

Welcome to our workshop – we will share local Iwi Kōrero and one of our Tipuna Stories with you. These are fun and interactive sessions of Kōrero, Stories, Google Earth Maps & Kahoot Quiz

Join us for a conversational journey through time reflecting on the past present and future that is represented in the stained glass window that has been a feature of the HB Williams Memorial library since 1993.

  • Saturday 16th 10AM

Creative response workshop series sourcing inspiration from our experiences during TTAF and the connections we make within our community during this time.
